Attack on War Child Office, Masisi DRC
War Child strongly condemns the drone attack on its office today in Masisi, North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo. Initial reports indicate that shrapnel has caused civilian casualties in nearby residential areas, though figures remain unconfirmed.

This attack represents a grave violation of international humanitarian law and an unacceptable assault on both children and families and humanitarian action. Civilians, humanitarian organisations, and their staff are protected under international law and must never be targeted.

We are relieved to confirm that our team members are safe, and we are continuing to provide them with the necessary support. We are currently assessing the damage to our premises and the impact on our operations.

War Child has been working in North Kivu to support children and families affected by conflict, providing life-saving protection, education, and psychosocial support. Attacks on humanitarian offices not only endanger aid workers, they expose civilian communities to further harm and directly undermine the delivery of essential services to children and communities who are already facing extreme levels of violence, displacement, and insecurity.

We call on all parties to the conflict to respect international humanitarian law, to protect civilians and humanitarian personnel, and to ensure safe, unimpeded access for humanitarian assistance.

War Child remains committed to supporting children and communities in the Democratic Republic of Congo and will continue to do so wherever it is safe to operate.
