The Relationship between War Trauma and Anxiety and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder among Preschool Children in the Gaza strip
This study investigated the relationship between war trauma, anxiety and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among preschool children in the Gaza Strip. It found that preschool children exposed to war-related incidents are at risk of developing PTSD and anxiety problems, which highlights the need to establish programs for preschool children affected by traumatic events associated with war.

Supporting Children Affected by War: Towards an Evidence Based Care System
This paper provides an overview of the impacts of war on children, outlining existing intervention research and sector standards, and provides recommendations and future directions for research and implementation. It then details War Child Holland’s research and development agenda accordingly, which aims to develop a multi-sectoral, multi-level system of care for children affected by war that addresses children’s needs across different ecological levels.

Focused psychosocial interventions for children in low-resource humanitarian settings: a systematic review and individual participant data meta-analysis
This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of focused psychosocial support interventions for children exposed to traumatic events in humanitarian settings, in low- and middle-income countries. Overall, it found that focused psychosocial interventions are effective in reducing PTSD and functional impairment, and in increasing hope, coping, and social support.

Social determinants of mental disorders and the Sustainable Development Goals: a systematic review of reviews
This study aims to develop a conceptual framework for the social determinants of mental disorders that is aligned within the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. Here, the framework is used to systematically review evidence regarding these social determinants, as well as identifying potential mechanisms and targets for interventions.

The Lancet Commission on global mental health and sustainable development
In 2007, a series of papers in The Lancet synthesised decades of interdisciplinary research and practice in diverse contexts and called the global community to action to scale up services for people affected by mental disorders, in particular in low-income and middle-income countries in which the attainment of human rights to care and dignity were most seriously compromised. Ten years on, this Commission reassesses the global mental health agenda in the context of the SDGs.

Conceptualization and measurement of traumatic events among refugees and other war-affected populations
This chapter presents three critiques of common practices that limit the understanding of refugee and other war-affected populations’ mental health, and argues that addressing these critiques will bring models of mental health closer to refugees’ experiences. Overall, it finds that solutions should include measuring frequency and schedule of trauma exposure, conceptualizing trauma exposure as a composite variable (as opposed to a latent factor), and identifying how trauma moderates the effects of pre-existing stressors on mental health.
