Why
Conflict often breaks down the systems and structures that help protect children, exposing them to many grave risks including family separation, violence, abuse, neglect, exploitation, and recruitment into armed groups.
Communities are often best placed to identify risks, protect children and respond to their needs. Community-led child protection can be sustainable, cost-effective and capable of reaching large numbers of children. But building these systems takes time, meaning that in the immediate aftermath of a crisis, organisations often rely on approaches that are designed and led by people outside a community.
