Designing a reading game that works with minimal teacher support isn’t just about creating fun activities – it requires translating and adjusting established literacy research into proven digital-appropriate content that children can use independently. This challenge led the Can’t Wait to Learn team to develop a systematic phonics curriculum that gives every opportunity for children to play with and manipulate sound. It has now been adapted across multiple languages and contexts.
In Northeast Syria, thousands of children are growing up without the chance to learn. Only one in four attends school regularly. For many families, the journey to the classroom is too dangerous, too expensive, or simply out of reach. Girls often face the added weight of cultural barriers and early marriage. Children with disabilities and those displaced by conflict are left behind without the support they need.
