CORE
Why
Teachers are the foundation of the school system. They play a critical role in creating environments where children feel safe, supported and able to learn and thrive.
Yet teachers are often overlooked. In conflict, they are expected to support children’s learning, health and wellbeing while also experiencing the realities and consequences of conflict themselves. They may face high levels of stress, limited resources, few opportunities for professional development, and irregular or unreliable pay. Without the right support, this can contribute to burnout, absenteeism and teachers leaving the profession.
Supporting teachers’ own wellbeing is essential to enabling them to support their students. When teachers feel supported and equipped to manage stress and challenges, they are better able to create positive learning environments, support children’s mental health and wellbeing, and help children build resilience and work towards their futures.
Investing in teacher wellbeing is therefore an investment in children’s learning, wellbeing and future.
