SchoolLinks
SchoolLinks is an education methodology designed to keep children in school by improving school enrolment, attendance and retention for children affected by conflict and crisis. Developed for use in refugee settings and other humanitarian contexts, SchoolLinks strengthens links between schools, parents and caregivers and communities, helping children stay in education and build foundational learning skills.
Why
Millions of children affected by conflict face barriers to accessing and staying in education, at the school, home, and community levels, including refugee settings.
Children face a number of challenges to go to and stay in school, particularly in refugee settings. Safety risks on the journey to school, language barriers, missing enrolment records, financial pressures, mental health and psychosocial challenges, can all prevent children from attending and succeeding in early education.
1 in 3 primary school-aged children affected by conflict and crisis are out of school. Of those who do attend, only 1 in 6 can read at the expected level by the end of primary school.
Urgent, effective solutions are needed to improve school enrolment, attendance and retention and strengthen foundational learning for children, wherever they are.
