Why
Children have the right to participate
Facilitating the participation of young people in decision making processes isn’t just a “nice to have”. It is a right, and an essential standard for organisations like War Child.
Under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), all children have the right to express their views in matters affecting them, to assemble, access information, and defend their rights. Youth are also increasingly recognised as core partners in bringing about global change, particularly in conflict and emergency contexts.

War Child brings child and youth voices to the 61st UN Human Rights Council
The negotiations on the future Crimes Against Humanity (CAH) Treaty represent a once-in-a-generation opportunity to ensure stronger protections for children in international law by considering explicitly the specific vulnerabilities and needs of children. With the deadline for Member States to submit proposed amendments to the UN Law Commission set for 30 April 2026, the window to act is narrowing fast. This is why War Child Alliance has been at the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva and why we made sure children and young people were in the room and were able to directly pass their messages to Member States.

UN Human Rights Council Unanimously Adopt Biannual Resolution on the Rights of the Child
War Child is thrilled to share that on Monday 30 March, the UN Human Rights Council unanimously adopted a biannual resolution on the rights of the child: “Realising the rights of the child affected by armed conflict.”

Amplifying youth voices at the United Nations Children and Armed Conflict Conference
Last month, War Child accompanied a group of four youth advocates to an international conference on Children and Armed Conflict in Malta where they designed and hosted their own session. The youth presented recommendations of over 100 child and youth participants from War Child’s VoiceMore programmes in Colombia and Uganda to UN Member States, agencies, and civil society.
